Samsung Staron Care and Maintenance

Samsung Staron Surfaces1. PREVENTING DAMAGE

In most cases, Staron® Solid Surfaces can be repaired with ease if accidentally damaged. However, be sure to follow these guidelines to prevent any damage to Staron.

  • HEAT DAMAGE: Staron® Solid Surfaces have excellent heat resistant property compared with other ordinary countertops. However, placing hot pans, as well as some heat-generating appliances such as frying pans or pots, can damage the surface. Always use a hot pad or a trivet with rubber feet to protect Staron. Avoid subjecting Staron® Solid Surfaces to temperatures over 80° C (170° F).

  • OTHER DAMAGE: Avoid exposing Staron® Solid Surfaces to strong chemicals such as paint removers and oven cleaners. Surfaces exposed to these chemicals should be promptly flushed with water. Prolonged contact will cause spots that may require extensive repairs.

  • Do not cut directly on a Staron® Solid Surfaces surface; always use a cutting board
  • Run cold water when pouring boiling water into sinks
  • Remove nail polish with a non-acetone-based nail polish remover and flush with water

For more information, please contact us or visit www.staron.com

NOTE: Any of the above can affect the surface finish and color. Dark colors may require more maintenance. Staron's solid composition makes it easy to maintain because it is homogenous. The surface can be restored to its original sheen by removing stains and scratches with a detergent. Periodic maintenance is recommended to retain surface quality and appearance.

2. CLEANING SURFACES AND SINK & BOWL

Occasionally clean the surface with soap, water and an ammonia-based cleanser using a sponge or damp cloth. Towel dry.

TO REMOVE SEVERE AND DIFFICULT STAINS:

DULL FINISH: Use an abrasive cleanser and a green Scotch-Brite® (registered trademark of the 3M company) pad. Rub in a circular motion.

SEMI-GLOSS FINISH: Use Soft Scrub® cleanser, diluted with bleach and a white Scotch-Brite® pad. Rub in a circular motion.

HIGH-GLOSS FINISH: Follow the procedure for semi-gloss, but use a sponge instead of a Scotch-Brite® pad, or use a white polishing compound in a circular motion.

SEMIGLOSS FINISH: Use Soft Scrub® cleanser, diluted with bleach and a white Scotch-Brite® pad. Rub in a circular motion.

3. DISINFECTING SURFACES AND SINK & BOWL

Wipe occasionally with diluted household bleach (water: bleach solution in 1:1 ratio).

4. REMOVING CUTS AND SCRATCHES

When Staron® Solid Surfaces are scratched or cut, repairs should be based on the following recommendations. Staron® Solid Surfaces highly recommend that extensive repairs should be performed by Certified Staron® Solid Surfaces fabricators.

  • DULL FINISH: Sand with 180 grit (120 micron) or 220 grit (60 micron) fine sandpaper until the cut and scratch is removed. Restore finish with soap and water, and a green Scotch Brite® pad to match the finish of the adjacent surface.

  • SEMI-GLOSS FINISH: Sand with 400 grit (30 micron) sandpaper, and restore finish with a nonabrasive cleanser and a white Scotch-Brite® pad.

  • HIGH-GLOSS FINISH: Sand with 400 grit (30 micron) or 600 grit (20 micron) sandpaper, and buff with a polishing compound and a low-speed (1500-2000 rpm) polisher using a wool pad. Finish with wax.

All of the above sanding and polishing should be done in a circular motion.
